Apophis

Lightning flashed from Apophis’s fist as he slammed it against the alter in a raging fury. Icy spears shot out of his skin and struck down the group of the men that had gathered before him. All dressed in their uniformed black trench coats and matching fedoras, their bodies had immediately frozen solid and disintegrated into white ash. Billows of sulfuric grey smoke rose from where they had once stood.

“You failed me!” the God of Chaos roared at his commanding officer.

Apophis turned his back to the officer and returned his full attention to the vortex that he’d created in the dark river, his anger rising as he stared down at the image of the family, happy and together again.

“Did I not speak clearly of the importance of keeping them apart? Yet it seems all you have done is bring them together!” He sneered at the scene, every inch of him wanting to dive into the vortex and cross over into the mortal realm and kill them all on the spot. But he couldn’t, not yet. Not until he’d retrieved all of their powers and has obtained full control over the Triad.

“My King.” The commander bowed deeply as he stammered in an effort to explain himself. “The Goddess of Protection used her powers to shield them all. There was no breaking through her barrier.”

Apophis’s wrath was seeping through his cold and bloodless veins. His tone low and acrid, he asked the commander, “What of the girl?”

Anxiously looking up at him while trying to maintain a respectful bow, his second-in-command seemed relieved by his question. Apophis glared at him, a scorching stare from his deadly black eyes that seemed to pierce through his second in command’s chest, sending him to his knees in excruciating pain.

“I do hope you intend on sharing with me a part of my plan that has proved successful, if you should ever hope to regain my trust,” Apophis said to him, enjoying the guttural screams from his commander. When the man curled into a ball on the floor, shaking and foaming at the mouth, Apophis released him from his torture. “Stand and speak.”

The commander painfully rolled to all fours and grunted as he pushed himself to his feet, brushing the back of his hand across the drool that had collected on his chin and panting as he tried to gather his breath.

“My King. I still have men on her trail. They are positioned at the border where she will be crossing. I have given strict orders not to harm the girl as you wished. The others are still creating havoc in the city of Berlin. The number of innocent lives that we are ruining will guarantee the family’s urge to respond, and our men will be there waiting for them when they do.”

Apophis shifted his wrathful gaze to the vortex again. He swept a large muscular arm over it, sending the thick black liquid into a turbulent swirl, swallowing up the image of the family and revealing another image.
